When passers by hear the sound of church bells ringing they often imagine that there is some "magic button" that will ring the bells automatically. The truth is that in the bell tower is a team of ringers following a tradition that started in the early part of the 17th century.

Yet ringing bells is so much more then simply pulling a rope! Bell ringers get to learn :

It's amazing to think that many of the methods that are rung today are the same as the ones rung hundreds of years ago. It is this common musical heritage that allows a ringer from one tower to ring seamlessly in another tower or with a band that they've never previously rung with. This is one of the reasons visitors are always welcome in Irish towers.

We are always looking to train new bells ringers, both male and female and of any religion. So if you are interested in learning this rewarding and unusual art form, then please contact the ringing master of your local tower.
